“A good wine is poetry and it is an art to produce it”: it is around this insight that the winery Al-Cantàra was created.
Albeit young, the winery is establishing a reputation for itself nationally and internationally thanks to the high quality of its wines, which have been awarded important prizes including the recent astounding results achieved at Vinitaly with eight wines selected for the 5 StarWines – The Book, Al-Cantàra was crowned “Winery of the Year – Gran Vinitaly 2023″.
The sophisticated and modern packaging is another distinctive feature of the Al-Cantàra products, whose unmistakable labels are painted by young Sicilian artists and seek to evoke the , the and the of . terroir traditions culture Sicily. The winery takes its name from the river which flows, from the slopes of Mount, below Etna the estate Feudo S. Anastasia (Randazzo), where the winery and the vineyards are located. The choice of the name “Al-Cantàra”, which in Arabic means “bridge”, aims not only to emphasize the link with the Sicilian terroir, but also to capture the symbolic union between , and wine art poetry. For this reason, the names of the wines are inspired by the poems by Sicilian authors such as Nino Martoglio, Micio Tempio, Giovanni Meli, Alfio Antico, Salvatore Di Pietro, Francesco Guglielmino and Ercole Patti. The grappa, the latest addition to the rich and varied portfolio of Al-Cantàra, is a tribute to one of the best-known compositions of Italian jester poetry, “Rosa fresca aulentissima” by Sicilian author Ciullo d’Alcamo.
In its 20 hectares of land, the winery produces and wines ETNA DOC Terre Siciliane IGP made only with grapes harvested from its land, favouring native grape varieties (Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante), but without neglecting experimenting with other varieties (such as Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon). Furthermore, thanks to its marked acidity, minerality and structure, Nerello Mascalese is proposed in all possible declinations: Red, Rosé, White, Sparkling (Spumante), Passito and Grappa! The volcanic soil of Mount Etna, rich in minerals, gives unique flavours and aromas to these wines. Each Al-Cantàra wine offers a fascinating and exciting multisensory journey, among colours, verses and flavours typical of the most genuine Sicilian cultural identity
